Transforming Sensory Discrimination Training

Device UI

Our Vision

For SensTrain to be the gold standard treatment for Phantom Limb Pain. Working in harmony with healthcare professionals, SensTrain will be the world’s first interactive medical device that will provide a fully-automated, self-administered Sensory Discrimination Training treatment for patients to use at home.

Sensory Discrimination Training

Phantom Limb Pain is the result of the difference between the brain’s perceived image of the body and the actual physical state of a damaged or missing body part.

SensTrain uses electrical stimulations (SDT) that help bring the brain’s perceptions of the body into line with its physical state. This change is associated with a reduction in pain levels and improvement in sensory performance.

SDT involves recognising and confirming the location and type of stimulus on the affected limb. Daily SDT therapy can help with cortical reorganisation, re-establishing the brain's blueprint of the body in it's current form.

The challenge has been to provide a therapy, that currently requires a healthcare professional to administer in a self managed, software-led medical device that can be used in the comfort of a patients’ home.

The Solution

SensTrain will be the world’s first self-applied, interactive medical device that will deliver a fully automated, self-managed SDT therapy to reduce PLP.

Until now, SDT required a health care professional to oversee the time-consuming daily therapy that can take up to 90 minutes a day. This has restricted its mainstream adoption.

SensTrain automates this treatment, using a software-led, self-managed therapy.
